Don’t let your pupils be left wet and cold this winter!

It’s that time of year again. The days get shorter and weather gets worse. Pupils’ spirits begin to dampen with the downpour outside, whilst parents waiting for their children huddle together to stay out of the weather’s wrath.

Of course it’s not just parents and children who need protection from the elements; teachers are at risk of being caught in a storm of bother when entering and exiting the building, as well as walking from lesson to lesson.

But there is a solution! If you’re in need of a structure to protect parents, pupils and staff from the dismal wet and windy weather this winter, then we have products to suit.

Hillcrest-AfterEntrance Canopies

Entrance canopies are ideal for keeping staff and children covered as they enter or exit the premises. They’re also a great way of ensuring entrance corridors are kept as dry as possible, minimising slips, falls and accidents.

Our entrance canopies come in all different shapes and sizes and are all bespoke manufactured to an individual school’s requirements. They can even be produced in any colour to match your school identity, allowing the canopy to be the forefront of your school image.

A great addition to the playground or school yard, umbrella canopies offer rest bite from sudden downpours. They are also a great focal point on the school’s grounds, and can even be used as a meeting point or to hold outdoor classes.

Like all other canopies, these can be painted in any colour, but, as it is a free standing canopy it comes in three pre-determined sizes spanning 5m, 6m and 7.5m.

Drop off and pick up times are always busy periods at schools, where parents normally congregate and chat to each other as they wait for their children.

In bad weather however, this becomes a miserable task. A parent waiting canopy can help alleviate the problem and keep them covered, whilst acting as a specific point where the children know their parents will be waiting.

All canopies are fully tested for wind and snow loadings. Our in-house structural engineer provides full site specific structural calculations to the latest Eurocodes and these are carried out for each individual installation.

For example, a canopy being installed at a school on high ground will have different specification requirements than one built on low ground.

Each canopy is made with Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP). Depending on the style and installation, steelwork will also be used, which is then matched to any desired colour finish, in line with the rest of the design.

The canopy systems provide protection from UV rays. The roof also comes with a Melinex gel coating which helps keep up to 90% of the sun’s harmful rays away.

With class sizes growing and a shortage of available classroom space at many schools, a canopy can offer an alternative to maximise outdoor areas.

They can also be a selling point to Ofsted inspectors and could help your school achieve an ‘outstanding’ rating.
