A day in the life of…our Regeneration and Housebuilders sales manager

There are many parts to our business. There’s CommercialHome & Garden, and there’s Regeneration & Housebuilders, which is the arm that works with our local authority, housing developer and housing association customers, to name but a few.

This month, we’re chatting to Greg Parkins, who is the sales manager for our Regeneration and Housebuilders team. Let’s see what his role involves….

Q: What type of tasks do you carry out every day?

A: I complete a wide range of tasks, which include:

  • Following up quotes
  • Going out to site meetings/surveys
  • Completing framework/tender submissions
  • Liaising with members of our sales team in relation to any queries they may have/providing advice or guidance on technical issues
  • Keeping our Constructionline account updated (we’re currently Gold members)
  • Attending exhibitions/meet the buyer events
  • Prospecting for new clients
  • Contributing to our new marketing material

Q: What’s the most important task for you and why?

A: The most important overarching task is making sure we hit our department’s sales target and carry out the necessary work that will enable us to make it happen and further establish ourselves as market leaders.

Q: How many other people do you immediately work with and what do they do?

A: I work alongside quite a few people from across the company. They are our sales director; MD; production manager; marketing manager; warehouse manager and two members of our internal telesales team.

Q: What does success look like for you?

A: Pulling together as a team and consistently hitting the sales target for our extensive range of Regeneration and Housebuilders canopies.

Q: What do you find most challenging about your role?

A: The challenges vary from day to day. One day, I can be feeling the pressure as I’m closing a big takedown supply and install contract with a nationwide contractor, the next, I could be value engineering a product for a client with very strict budget constraints. And then other days, I’ll be coming up with an innovative new canopy for an emerging market or completing a framework submission – the list really is varied.

Q: What do you enjoy the most about your job?

A: Dealing with a wide variety of clients, all with very different canopy needs, and making sure we 100% deliver on their requirements, no matter how complex they may be.

Q: How much of your time is office vs site-based?

A: It depends on what’s required during the week – it can be a 20/80 split or a 80/20 split.

Q: Describe your job in one word.

A: Exciting, because by generating sales, I’m directly contributing to the company’s on-going success and future vision, as well as providing our clients with effective solutions.

Q: How do you see your job evolving?

A: My job’s one of those that’s continuously evolving to make sure we stand out from the competition. I’m always keen to progress to the next level so I can provide a better service to our clients by building upon my existing skills, experience and knowledge of the market.
