Scunthorpe General Hospital

We worked with Scunthorpe General Hospital to install a simple, effective canopy over their busy security window, helping staff stay dry and protected whatever the weather.

Background

The window at Scunthorpe General Hospital is in constant use, especially by ambulance teams and staff signing in. But, with no overhead shelter, it left people exposed to the elements and risked water getting into the building. The Estates team wanted a straightforward fix that would make life easier for everyone using the window, all year round.

The requirement

The hospital needed a compact, durable canopy that would sit neatly above the window, offering cover from rain and wind without blocking any of the CCTV coverage nearby. It also had to match the existing grey framework on site to blend in with the surroundings.

The challenge

The main challenge was positioning. The canopy had to be installed high enough to avoid interfering with the CCTV but still provide proper coverage for the window below. It was a small space, but getting the position right mattered.

The solution

We recommended a Connekt wall-mounted canopy, using gallows brackets fixed straight into the brickwork. That meant no posts were needed on the ground, and the space was kept clear for staff and ambulance crews to move around freely.

To match the rest of the building, the frame was finished in RAL 7016 anthracite grey, creating a smart, seamless look.

Results

This project was a quick, no-fuss installation that has made a big difference to the space. The new canopy keeps staff dry, protects the building from water and fits seamlessly into the site without blocking the CCTV or interfering with day-to-day operations.

From order to installation, everything was completed in a very short timeframe – just what the Estates team needed. The client was really pleased with the result and is already looking at potential projects for other hospital sites.

“I would like to pass on my thanks for the installation of the canopy in Scunthorpe General Hospital – it looks great.”
