Pool House Community Primary School

We worked with Pool House Community Primary School to install a large cantilever canopy, creating a bright, weatherproof outdoor space that the pupils could enjoy in all seasons.

Background

Pool House Primary in Preston wanted to make better use of their outdoor space by providing cover for free-flow activities, even in bad weather.

The school’s old shade sail had been worn down by poor weather and the space underneath was no longer doing its job. They were looking for something more reliable – a canopy that would offer proper cover and get the area back into everyday use.

The requirement

The school wanted a large, fuss-free canopy that could:

  • Cover a key walkway and play area so it could be used in all weathers
  • Help children move easily between indoors and out
  • Stay clear of obstacles and make the most of the space available
  • Be installed quickly and with as little disruption as possible

The Planning

Before the new canopy could be installed, the old shade sail framework needed to be removed. A few of the existing posts clashed with the layout of the new structure, so we cleared these as part of the prep.

We also worked closely with the school to plan around the school day, avoiding drop-off and pick-up times and keeping everything tidy and safe while work was underway.

The solution

We installed a bespoke Connekt cantilever canopy, finished in a bright blue to match the school’s colours. The canopy runs along the building, giving pupils a wide, open space to walk, play and explore without worrying about the weather.

With no front posts, the cantilever design keeps the space open and easy to move through – ideal for younger pupils heading between classrooms and outdoor play. The translucent roof panels let in plenty of natural light while still providing full protection from the rain.

Results

The new canopy has transformed the space. It means outdoor play and learning are no longer dependent on the weather. The space is open, sheltered and ready to use all year round.

The project was completed on time, with minimal disruption and positive feedback from the school team.

“Canopies UK turned up on time, worked with us and around school drop-off and collection times, and left the place clean and tidy.”
