McConnell – Almondvale and Broxburn care homes

We worked with McConnell to install two mobility scooter canopies at care homes in Almondvale and Broxburn, creating dry, secure places for residents to park and charge their scooters outside.

Background

Residents at both care homes were having to leave their mobility scooters in the hallways. This reduced the space available for residents and staff to move through the buildings and created a potential fire safety risk.

McConnell needed a practical way to move the scooters outside without leaving them exposed to the weather or at risk of water damage while charging.

The requirement

The two care homes needed canopies that would:

  • Keep mobility scooters sheltered while parked outside
  • Protect the scooters and charging points from the weather
  • Help keep internal hallways clear
  • Provide suitable cover for the available space at each site

The solution

We supplied and installed a different canopy at each care home to suit the layout of the site.

At Broxburn, we installed a wall-mounted Connekt canopy over the external mobility scooter charging area. At Almondvale, we installed a Monza canopy to provide the same practical weather protection for residents’ scooters.

Both structures allow the scooters to be parked and charged outdoors while remaining dry and protected.

Results

The two care homes now have dedicated covered areas for mobility scooters, giving residents somewhere suitable to leave and charge them outside.

Moving the scooters out of the hallways has freed up space within the buildings, making it easier for residents and staff to move around while also addressing the fire safety concern.

“The initial contact was smooth, the communication was clear and the artists’ impressions supplied were fantastic. The operatives arrived when planned, were very polite and professional, and left the site clean and tidy with two new, shiny canopies for housing motorised scooters for the elderly residents.”
