Chipping Ongar Primary School needed a new play area canopy outside of a classroom.

Chipping Ongar Primary School reached out to us as they wanted us to supply a new play area canopy to cover an area outside of a classroom, without interfering with the current play space.

The requirement

The headteacher wanted to achieve a covered outdoor space that could be used as a play area all year round, no matter the weather. The current area is used heavily by the children and the staff, and the school wanted to optimise it to be used in all seasons with the use of a canopy.

The challenge

As the area has such high footfall, the school didn’t want any obstructing posts that could get in the way of access to and from the classroom. The solution needed to be sympathetic with the current school building and provide much-needed cover without limiting any of the existing space.

The solution

We visited the site in order to assess the school’s requirements and ensure we could provide the perfect solution to their space-related issues.

We decided to install our Connekt canopy system on vertical brackets against the school building. We knew instantly that Connekt was the right solution for the school. With its lack of supporting posts, it’s hugely popular with nurseries and schools that want to optimise their usable outdoor space while keeping children’s safety firmly in mind.

There was an emergency light over the doorway that we needed to work around, which was kept in mind during the installation. The school also wanted the canopy to match the school uniform colours, so we manufactured the main framework in matching red while the fascia and guttering was completed in white.

Results

The canopy was installed as planned and on time, in line with the requirements of Chipping Ongar School. The school’s new canopy has optimised the usable outdoor space, as the children now have a sheltered area where they can play in all seasons without worrying about poor weather.
