Snarestone C of E Primary School

We worked with Snarestone C of E Primary School to install a colourful umbrella canopy, turning an underused corner of the playground into a bright, sheltered space that pupils can enjoy whatever the weather.

Background

Snarestone C of E Primary School is based on a site with a long history, dating back to 1717. Until recently, the rear play area didn’t have any shelter or shade, which meant outdoor time could be cut short by poor weather.

The school’s trustees, who act as landlords under a long-standing trust, were looking to make a lasting, practical improvement for the pupils. They wanted something that would add real value and be enjoyed by the children for years to come.

The requirement

The school needed a weatherproof outdoor space that could be used year-round. Their priorities included:

  • A bright, child-friendly design
  • A design that didn’t take up too much space on the ground
  • Something visually in keeping with the school’s setting, which sits just outside a conservation area

An umbrella canopy quickly stood out as the right option. With just one central post, it offers plenty of coverage without taking up valuable space.

The challenge

The main challenge was getting trustee approval for the investment. The school had recently received a monetary gift, and the trustees wanted to use it in a meaningful, lasting way.

We helped the school explore the options and presented a practical solution that aligned with their goals. Once the trustees were on board, the project moved ahead smoothly.

The solution

We recommended a 7,500mm multicoloured umbrella canopy – something that would brighten up the space and provide much-needed shade and shelter.

After carrying out a site survey, we worked closely with the school and trustees to make sure the design and specifications were right. The canopy’s compact structure and bold colours made it a great match for the space and the age group.

Results

The new canopy offers a bright, weather-protected space that’s ideal for play and outdoor learning. Its single-post design helps keep the area open and accessible, while the multicoloured finish adds a fun, vibrant touch to the playground.

Although the school sits just outside a conservation area, the canopy’s simple, thoughtful design fits in well with its surroundings. It brings a modern, uplifting addition to the site and provides a practical space the school community can make use of for years to come.
