Homecroft Wyndley Grange Care Home is a home for the elderly situated on the edge of Sutton Park, originally built in 1872 the building was in need of a little TLC. Restoring and extending the building whilst maintaining its original charm to give the care home a fresh new look was the focus.
After recent refurbishments and extensions to the care home, the client needed a covered walkway to link the original building with a new purpose built building. The walkway was required to transport food, drinks, bedding and supplies as well as creating a safe area for the residents to move from building to building.
The care home also required an entrance canopy at the front of the building, this would serve as a waiting area for staff and visitors when waiting to enter the building.
The biggest challenge we faced on this project was the slightly unusual shape of the walkway. The walls of the walkway did not run parallel to each other, meaning a variation in projection was needed.
Another challenge we faced and overcame was the varying underground heights, after recent excavation works the underground heights where left at different levels.
The system we recommended for both the walkway area and the entrance area was our modular Connekt canopy system. Using this system meant we could use various fixing methods to solve the problem of the varying underground heights.
Our surveyor worked closely with our in-house structural engineer to ensure the best outcome for the care home.
Our Connekt cantilevered canopy design meant that the canopy system recommended was perfect for the care home. The post free aspect to the canopy meant that the views out over the nearby lake would not be disrupted, as well as creating a safe area for residents and staff to use.
Our bespoke colour matching service also meant that the canopy could fit in with the new restorations the care home has recently undergone.
After several special visits to the care home, the canopy systems were completed and put to good use by staff and residents. The end result being a bespoke system that fit the client’s needs, whilst also adding another feature to the recent restorations.
The varying heights and projection of the walkway was created, producing a walkway perfect for the area. The entrance canopy was also completed and adds an additional covered area while waiting to enter the building. Making a ‘wow’ statement as you approach the home.
